We all love the welcoming doors.
Wide arms opened with a smile.
I remember my beautiful memories with library.
Huge wooden cupboards with glass doors.
Where every shelf was magnificently decorated with books.
Every week when we had library period,
Had an excitement of issuing new book in exchange of the previous one.
Where the librarian welcomed the students with a beautiful smile.
With the only instructions of maintaining discipline and silence.
Long queue for turning the pages of encyclopaedia.
What a magnificent fragrance of the old books, while visiting the city library.
Treasure for the book lovers.
Bobbsey Twins being my first childhood book read by me.
This created enthusiasm in me of reading books.
I miss the days of visiting school or city library for seeking the information on various topics.
Remember the smile of my librarian, when asked him to suggest the books of different authors.
I miss the atmosphere of being in a library.
Where I took time to decide which book should I read among many the various options available.
Library gives us everything what we need for a better future.
It allows us to ask questions about the world and creates an excitement to search for answers.
I hope today’s generation have the same experience and enthusiasm, while visiting library.

My First Memory (Of Librarians) by Nikki Giovanni
This is my first memory:
A big room with heavy wooden tables that sat on a creaky
wood floor
A line of green shades—bankers’ lights—down the center
Heavy oak chairs that were too low or maybe I was simply
too short
For me to sit in and read
So my first book was always big
In the foyer up four steps a semi-circle desk presided
To the left side the card catalogue
On the right newspapers draped over what looked like
a quilt rack
Magazines face out from the wall
The welcoming smile of my librarian
The anticipation in my heart
All those books — another world — just waiting
At my fingertips.

Sitting cross-legged on the floor of the library going through one book with books like it within easy reach. The world was at my fingertips… When I first went into a college library, my thought was, “this is too great. What’s the catch?”…

Wow you described it all so nicely!! Brought back all the memories associated with the library!!! Since childhood libraries had always fascinated me!! Be it the the old gothic style library in school with huge arches and doors and shelves to the modern one in college…..but what never changed was the smell of books and silence – which always made it my second home!

Yes absolutely true and I too miss school libraries and just being there with all the books and their fragrances was just beautiful. So beautifully penned lines, Tanvir and perfect words for a Library. I hope today’s generation think about paperback books and what knowledge they can have.

Lovely! I still believe in libraries. I too have fond memories of surveying the stacks and curling up in the little chairs. You might enjoy reading The Library Book by Susan Orlean. I just reviewed it on my blog.

Well said, I also have fond memories of library day at school. The first book I remember loving was Little House in the Big Woods, by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Now I go to the library every day, my childhood fascination grew into a career. Great Post.
